Burlap monogram gifts ~

Hello, lovely friends!

Now that Mother's day is over I want to share the gifts that I made for my Mom and my Mother~in~law.

I made them each their own burlap monogram frame.

Here's the one that I made for my home ~

You can see that tutorial here

Again, this idea is originally from Tonya at For Love of Family and Home. You should all check it out her tutorial here and also follow her blog, it's amazing!

~*~
Here's another tutorial anyway ~

I bought these plastic gold frames for $5 a piece at a Salvation Army Store. A bit pricey if I was just buying them for myself. This obviously is a set though, which is always hard to find and they're oval, also very hard to find.

I removed the glass and the cottage, card board "art" backing and cleaned the frames before I spray painted

I decided that heirloom white matches my Mom's cottagy home and the more refined black would match my Mother~in~law's home. I spray painted the unfinished wood letters in gold. It doesn't match, but it still worked well for what I needed.

I spray painted each piece twice, let it dry over night and then distressed everything with sand paper. I also spray painted the cardboard backing with Satin nutmeg spray paint so that if anything were to show through, the brown color will  match the burlap much better than eighties English countryside cottage scenes.

Then, with a Sharpie I outlined my oval shape and did my cutting. Easy as pie!

Next, I sprayed the board with Elmer's spray adhesive and immediately placed the burlap on the board and pressed it down firmly. The entire area where you spray this stuff will get really tacky right away and makes somewhat of a mess. Just a warning in case you haven't worked with it before

Finally, I used Elmer's wood glue to attach the wood letters to the burlap/cardboard piece.

I laid heavy books on them for a few hours as these were bigger than my first burlap frame and I wanted them to be secure.

Here they are!

Can you believe these are just plastic gold frames? It seems a little paint can make almost anything look great! I was pretty unsure throughout the whole process if the plastic would work, but I think it did.

Here's a closer look at the distressing on the pretty flower design and edges

and then more distressing on the edges

I also got each of them loose leaf tea and little mesh strainers. They both love tea like I do and this is the best kind out there. Have you ever had it? The store where I buy this tea has the most amazing flavors like Ginger Peach Clove Black Tea, Classic Earl Grey, Rose Petal Lush Herbal Tea, English Breakfast and many more. I want to try some with lavender next. Tea is just so heavenly, don't you think?!

I hope that they both love their gifts and that they know how special and loved they are!

Even though Mother's day is over maybe you've gotten a few gift idea's here for the special ladies in your life.

Well, I'm off to enjoy some tea of my own.

Love,

Great gift idea, Jamie! What a find ~ a pair of frames. Love the burlap background to the letters. I'll bet they just loved these. I use that paint, myself, and I find it covers wonderfully. I always keep a can of Heirloom White and Black in the garage for those projects that pop into my head on the spur of the moment. Great job! : )

They turned out great, Jamie. I just saw mom's yesterday and it is super cute. We were scoping out a place to hang it! I have some burlap and an oval frame. I may just make one of these for my house! You really need to move back to GR so we can craft together! :)
