Beatrix Potter Nursery Reveal ~ Part 2

Hello, dear friends!

Here is the last post for my big nursery project~ I have had so much fun creating this space for my precious baby girl.

"Once upon a time there were four little rabbits and there names were Flopsie, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter."

I found this free, beautiful printable over at Be Book Bound. You can check it out here.

My brother-in-law drew this beautiful picture for the nursery!
It's Peter Rabbit as an adult shopping at Ginger & Pickles store.

I made this chicken wire frame to hang all of the beautiful artwork that Olivia's cousins and friends drew for her at the time of my baby shower ~ One day Olivia's own artwork will hang here.

"At last Peter Rabbit made his way back to the cozy little burrow where he lived with his family. He was a very tired rabbit indeed."

I loved organizing all of her beautiful clothes. Every single one of them were gifts from family, dear friends, co-workers, and our wonderful church family!

Thanks for sticking with me on this major photo overload! I'm sure you can tell that I put my heart and soul into creating this room for my baby. I had so much fun creating this space and making Olivia's arrival into this world one of the most special times in my life.

Miss Olivia ~

This is Olivia at one week old. The picture is inspired of course by her bunny themed bedroom. Thanks once again to my sister-in-law for taking so many beautiful photos of our sweet baby girl!

I hope you enjoyed my big nursery reveal. I had such a wonderful time dreaming, planning, and creating Olivia's room.

Beatrix Potter Nursery Reveal ~ Part 1

Hello, dear friends!

Olivia Grace is now 16 months old and I'm finally getting to her big nursery "reveal". Time tends to get away from you when you're enjoying every single day with raising a child. The pictures may be very late but enjoy!

Here are the beautiful photos that my sister-in-law, Whitney took of the room.

The view from the doorway

I love this wall decal

The dresser/changing table, shelves, and rocking bench that I painted.

The modge-podge Olivia letters that I made.
I framed book pages for this wall as well.

A closer look

A pull toy from a friend

The bookshelf is completely packed

More thrift finds from a friend

Miniature tea set

I will post my not-so-professional looking photos in part 2 with a little more information on how I put the nursery together.

Have a wonderful day!

Love,

Nursery Project# 9 ~ Ruffled Lamp Shade

Hello, dear friends!

I am going to show you an epic fail on my first attempt at covering a lamp shade. I've never done this before on my blog. I've had plenty of fails, I just never show them.

Here is my lamp fixed and set up in the nursery ~

Here goes ~

I bought this lamp from Goodwill for $6.99. I was hoping to keep this project simple and cheap since I had gotten such a good deal on the lamp in the first place. The shade was ugly with glue dripping out from underneath the blue ric-rac and seriously needed to be covered.

I bought this pretty ribbon from Hobby Lobby and hoped to cover the whole shade with it. As I hot glued all the way around, layer by layer, I glued on some parts that ended up being very crooked and some of the ribbon was even made stitched off center as well. The whole thing looks janky and was so frustrating. A lot of people still told me it was cute and to keep it this way. I just couldn't do it. I want it to fit into a child's room, not look like a child made it!

I swapped out the blue star on the lamp pull for a pretty pink rose pull  from the jewelry section of Hobby Lobby.

Anyway, I decided to cover the ribbon on the lamp shade with muslin ruffles. I found some cute pictures on Pinterest and two great tutorials from two really nice bloggers! Samantha from Crafty Texas Girls did a wonderful job with her lamp and tutorial. She even e-mailed me back when I had a question about her lamp. I wanted to know if the hot glue ever got warm enough to start dripping down the lamp. She assured me that this has never happened with her lamps. How sweet is that? You can see her post here.

I also love what Emily Sue over at The Netzfamily did with her lamp shade. You can see that post here.

My version isn't as cute as either of theirs, or as scrunched together for the super full look. It just didn't work for my small lamp or the small amount of strips I had ruffled.

This is what I did to fix the shade ~

I cut several strips of the muslin material and took my sewing machine to my Mom's to have her teach me how to sew a seam in the center of the fabric to make the ruffles. Turns out that the sewing machine that a friend picked up for me was broken all along. Yet another snag in getting the lamp done!
I took the strips to a wonderful friend from church. She sewed the strips for me and came over to help me ruffle the ribbons

We made the ruffles by hand, being careful not to break the thread as we made the ruffles by pushing the fabric to the center of the strip.

I hot glued at the center of the seam

and attached the ruffle to the lamp shade

I stitched the ends together on each row until the all the ruffles were glued in place.

The lamp finally done and in place.

Have a great day!
