Hello, friends!
Today, I'm sharing my laundry room makeover with you. Now, this isn't one of those amazing reveals where the laundry room now has one of those beautiful bead board ceilings (or any ceiling at all for that matter) or a new chandelier lighting fixture, or a vintage ladder hanging from the ceiling to hold my drying clothes. All of those things are simply beautiful but are far beyond my budget. Anyway, it's my little laundry room and I love it!
This is the before photo of my laundry room ~
I don't know why anyone would paint a dark, windowless basement room a dark purple color, but to each their own. But that's just not me. I knew I would paint over it eventually when we bought the house
I almost forgot to get any before pictures - I remembered after I had already had the shelf taken down.
Much cheerier with bright yellow paint!
Don't mind my dirty laundry ~ it really piled up after two days of painting!
The paint is a Martha Stewart paint color that I can't find the name of anymore (I believe it's discontinued) - We had it on hand from an old apartment, where I used this color on an accent wall in the kitchen. I had barely used any of the paint at all. It was nice to be able to use paint we already had on hand! It's very similar to the BEHR paint brand in Melted Butter
(300A-3).
We cleared out the washer, dryer, and cart to paint the floor with white cement paint
This is what we used
Everything moved back in after four coats of cement paint. I went with the white to lighten the room and also because it makes it more likely that I'll sweep and keep the room clean and spider web free! Once I painted the floor, the back wall looked dingy so I painted a coat of the cement paint over that. My Dad replaced the old pipe and put in a new shiny one!
Here's the room all decorated and set up. It's a nice, clean place to wash clothes, stand and fold laundry, and a have a little extra room for organizing and storage.
I bought the canvas at Tuesday Morning for $9.99
The hooks holding up the ironing board were bought a few years ago at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. They were originally for another project that didn't work out and have just been sitting around waiting to be used in such a perfect way. I love it!
The ironing board cover was $10.99 at Meijer
All the items including the shelf are things that I've collected over the years to use in my someday laundry room. The tin is new from Home Goods actually. I think it was $9.99 and had powder laundry soap in it that I now love using!
My laundry folding station
Hangers and Storage
I added the chalkboard labels myself
These were another part of my present.
They were $3.33 a piece at Target on sale.
My laundry soap and bleach canisters were $9.99 and $7.99, plus an additional 15% off at Meijer. They came with the chalkboard labels already on them
I love this tin sign! I bought it years ago from Hobby Lobby.
My washboard was a find at an antique store a few years back.
These frames are from my childhood home. My Mom had them hanging in our old kitchen with cute recipe prints in them. I spray painted them in claret wine by Rustoleum, and placed fruit scrap booking paper as backing. I then attached old laundry themed adds to the center of the paper. I bought the ads from an antique store in Asheville, North Carolina, on our vacation a few years ago.
A closer look at the color and the pretty, vintage looking cherries paper.
I also decided to hang an old memo board to start hanging pictures, laundry soap recipes, scripture verses, decor inspirational photos etc...
Such a cushy rug to stand on as I fold laundry! It's so pretty too!
This rug in front of the washer and dryer was also part of my birthday gift.
The laundry hamper was a part of the present too.
I love how I was able to find so many different items from different stores that pulled in all the yellow and gray!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my new laundry room!
Love,

It looks much more cheerful, Jamie! Love that you painted the floor, too. Purple wouldn't have been my first choice in wall color either. : ) Love the accessories you added in, too!
Wow, I would kill for a laundry room like yours! My washer and dryer is in the garage, since we don't have basements here in Orlando. I think it is adorable. I bet the previous owners painted it purple because, just like you....They had some left over lol! I'm thinking the left over yellow is a great improvement!

You gave the room so much character! Love the new color with all of your accessories. How lucky you are to have such a large laundry room. I've been out of touch for so long. I hope you and your family are doing well.
That is a wonderful space Jamie. I love the counter space to fold, how nice is that!
Sherry
I envy you this large laundry room with a spacious folding table, Jamie. You remade everything so bright and cheerful, and I bet that makes your laundry chores so much more pleasant.
Well done! That is such an inviting room now! Thanks for sharing it on Twirl & Take a Bow Party. Nikki

It's so pretty and bright now, Jamie. I have a basement laundry room similar to yours that I have done some work on but I still need to paint the floor. Our floor looks almost exactly like your before picture. Now that I see how great yours looks, maybe I'll be motivated to get it done!
You did an amazing job. The yellow is so bright and cheery. Everything you added just made it so inviting - if that's even possible for a laundry room! (I must tell you I noticed that you alternated your hangers, too. Yellow/white, yellow/white.)
So bright and cheery, I love the soft yellow and the white floor is amazing. Great transformation. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.
Popping over from Savvy Southern Style. I love what you've done with your laundry room! Basement laundry rooms can be sad and stark, but your is a pleasure!
